Confirmation at St. Luke's

What is Confirmation?

· Confirmation literally means to make firm. During this year, individuals are making a firm commitment to a lifetime of discipleship through faith in Jesus Christ.
· Confirmation is not a time just to joint the church. Individuals who have been baptized are already members of the church!
· Confirmation is not simply about gathering facts and increasing knowledge. It is about knowing and feeling. It is about standing before other believers and professing, “I too believe.” It is about learning to live day by day as a believer and practicing the faith.
· Confirmation is not graduation from but rather a commencement into a life long learning, worship and growth as a Disciple of Christ.

FAQ
1. Who is confirmation for? Our Confirmation Classes are open to anyone sixth grade and above. Each year we tend to have many middle school students and some high school students.
2. What are the attendance requirements? We believe confirmation requires commitment—just like our own faith walks. So, we expect attendance at all sessions. However, with that being said, we understand the occasional absence due to grandmother’s 90th birthday party, a sudden illness, a family emergency, etc. Any absences will have make up homework to keep the student current on the study. At the end of the year of classes we will review attendance will be made to see if a true commitment has been made on the part of the student.
3. When does the class meet? We will be meeting each Sunday afternoon at 4 pm. This time slot is immediately proceeding the middle school youth group meeting and supper. So a confirmand can stay for those as well.
4. What about worship and Sunday School attendance? While we do not track these for confirmation purposes, for complete faith development, regular study and worship are strongly suggested.
5. Who leads the Confirmation class? Our clergy staff rotate responsibility for all our classes. For child protection reasons, we also are dependent on parent volunteers to help out. Interested? Contact James Pace, Director of Discipleship to volunteer.
6. When do classes begin? We start a new class every fall in September. This year our initial meeting is on September 13 at 4 pm. This meeting is for both students and parents.
