Outreach Ministry

 

OUTREACH MINISTRY

Outreach Ministry focuses on evangelism and hospitality.
  The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church describes our mission
to proclaim the gospel and to welcome people into the Body of Christ.

Outreach Ministry encompasses the following opportunities and activities:

 Outreach Community Events  -  The church invites the community to….. 
o Spring Community Event  -  An event such as a play or musical 
o Fall Community Carnival  -  An event held during Open House Month in late September or in early October
o Winter Drive-Thru Nativity  -  Advent/Christmas outreach with dramatic interpretation of scenes from the Christmas and Easter stories
Hospitality Center  -  Volunteers staff the welcome/information booth in the narthex between each of the Sunday worship services.
Shepherding Ministry  -  Volunteers pick up first-time visitor registration cards after worship services and make contact by phone or e-mail.
Courtyard Coffee Time Hosting  -  Hospitality folks set up and host refreshment time between Sunday worship services.
Kids’ Night Out  -  St. Luke’s hosts a Saturday evening meal, recreation, and movie for children through age 12, with nursery available for babies and toddlers; held approximately every 4 – 6 weeks, fall through late spring.
Newcomer Seminar Dinners   -  Church members help prepare and serve dinner to the attendees at the Newcomer Seminars.
Newcomer Mentors  - Mentors make contact with seminar attendees, and assist them in becoming connected within the church community.
New Neighbor Packets  -  Prepared by volunteers, the packets are available for congregation members to deliver to their new neighbors.
Bread Ministry  -  Bakers provide small loaves of homemade bread for worship visitors.
Reading Volunteers  -  St. Luke’s volunteers tutor students in reading at Grafton Bethel Elementary School.
Advertising  -  Working with the church Communications Coordinator, Outreach coordinators arrange for cinema banners or big screen spots, TV commercials, postcard mailings, etc., that invite the community to attend events at St. Luke’s.

Outreach Hospitality

 
Hospitality Center    (one Sunday per month)          

__  8:30 worship service  (Be at desk in narthex from 8:15 – 8:30 /& after 8:30        service until 9:45 volunteer arrives.)
__  9:45 worship service (Be at desk in narthex from 9:30 – 9:45/ & after 9:45      service until 11:00 volunteer arrives.)
__ 11:00 worship service (Be at desk in narthex from 10:45 – 11:00/ & after 11:00      service.)
__ Bake bread for first-time visitors.
__ Prepare New Neighbor Packets.

__ adult helpers for set-up, activities, mealtime, and clean-up
__ adult childcare helpers in infant and toddler nurseries

Newcomer Seminar Dinners (rotating schedule; held 4 – 5 Sundays per year)

__ Set up tables, chairs, and place settings for meal following seminar.
__ Plan and prepare a homemade dinner to be served following seminar.
__ Help host and serve  dinner.
__ Help clean up following dinner.
